Sigiriya

After breakfast, we visit Sigiriya Rock Fortress, known as a contender for the eighth wonder of the world. At its summit are the foundations of what was once a great and sumptuous Palace including a complete garden and swimming pool. Few historic sites in the world have such a fascinating tale to tell as that of Sigiriya. It is a story of vision, grandeur, and tragedy unparalleled in history. Built 1600 years ago, by a brilliant but tormented King Kasyapa, it burst briefly into pre-eminence with breathtaking architecture and art and then quickly faded into oblivion and was soon forgotten. But this morning won’t soon be forgotten. Later in the afternoon, visit Minneriya National Park and embark on a Jeep safari. This activity is Sri Lanka’s number one wildlife experience known as the “Gathering”. During the dry season when water supplies start to diminish, more and more animals congregate around the Minneriya reservoir where the grasses are rich and fertile. Upon return, the rest of the day will be at leisure for you to enjoy the hotel amenities.
